Barmby Moor is a popular residential village, close to the market town of Pocklington and has a population of 1,205 (2021 census).
The village dates from the 11th century and at one time had its own market with a coaching inn (Barmby Moor House - now a private residence). It has a church (St Catherine's, first built in the 15 century), a village hall, primary school, post office and public house (The Boot & Slipper). The church and manor house (built in 1597 and where the author Lewis Carol once stayed) are designated as Grade II* listed, while the former coaching inn and several other buildings are Grade II listed.
Each July, a traditional fete - the Barmby Feast - is held in the village, raising money for the thriving village playing fields.
The village is fortunate in having access to FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) high speed broadband, allowing download speeds of over 70 Mbps, and full Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) is due to be made available in the summer of 2023 providing significantly faster internet access.
A number of No Cold Calling Zones have been established in the village. These are Main Street, Sutton Lane, The Laurels, Chapel Street and St. Helen’s Square.
